Dr. J. Brannan Smoot is a highly regarded and experienced orthopedic surgeon at Texas Orthopedics. His philosophy of care is focused on a commitment to help patients recover so that they can regain function and quality of life.
Dr. Smoot earned his undergraduate degree from Rice University, Houston where he played division I college football and represented the USA in rugby against Canada in 1992. He completed medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas and his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City. He also completed fellowship-training in knee, foot and ankle surgery in Sydney, Australia.
Dr. Smoot specializes in foot, ankle and knee surgery along with being certified as a Sports Medicine physician. From arthritis pain to torn ligaments, to bunions and hammer toes, Dr. Smoot sees a wide range of conditions that affect the knee down to the toes.
Along with his busy practice, he is the Assistant Chief of the Orthopaedic Surgery Division at the Dell Medical School and an active member of the teaching faculty of Dell Medical School’s Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program.
Dr. Smoot has been named by his peers to the Texas Monthly Super Doctors list in 2012 and 2019-2022. He has also been recognized as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor in 2021 and 2022.
